Batman’s view on CORE STABILITY…….
Check out the picture below featuring everyone’s favourite superhero Batman. This is a cool graphic courtesy of James Marshall S&C coach in the South West of England.
This is what I would normally say to people who tell me that’s what they need to do!
The thing is, core stability is one of those terms that means everything to people but actually means nothing.
What is it?
How do you train it?
To answer the confusion I put out my thoughts on this in my latest video collection ‘Core Training Considerations’.
For me core training is just training.
Everything is core training just like everything is functional.
There are some important considerations that we need to be aware of such as how the body moves in sporting and functional movements. Off the back of that we can then look at how to actually train the ‘Core’ or trunk areas to produce efficient, productive movement.
So the video collection has 3 videos which take you through the theory of how to train, test and progress core exercises. Then there is a load of practical progressions that I use with my athletes.
You’ll learn how to take someone from basic low load exercises through to farmers walks, sleds, land mines, rollouts, med ball throws and all the other stuff.
At the very least you’ll pick up a LOAD of useable progressions and exercises to help you in your training or coaching.
I also look at partner exercise which is excellent for the core, and introduce a new concept I call reactive core training.
This is the top end and really challenges you in a different way.
