What’s your caveat?
We have a natural habit of introducing caveats to other people success.
When someone gets a bonus at work it’s because they are ‘In’ with the boss.
When a colleague or friend buys a new car ‘he must have got it on finance’.
When we see feats of great athletiscm ‘they must have been born with it’.
When someone sells their business and becomes and millionaire “it’s because they went to private school’.
When our friend achieves the weight loss they want ‘they become boring and not fun anymore’ so we don’t want to emulate that do we?
Let’s examine this for a second.
These caveats are there to protect us. They allow us to carry on moving forwards and focus on our own game. Thats a positive.
What happened to being happy for other people’s success? Envy is a powerful emotion. Too powerful. But we can use it.
When someone moves forwards in their life, whatever realm it may be thats awesome. Let’s use it to push us forwards even faster. Channel it, admit to yourself that you want some of it and then go and make it happen.
We need to harness it and use it for our own advantage.
Perhaps we need to just take a moment to say ‘good work’ to that person along the way, acknowledge their success. It’s nice to be nice every now and again.
The next time someone around you has an awesome development in their life take a moment to check yourself and see what your gut reaction is. Just take a moment, and see how well that reaction is serving you.
Challenge yourself to control it positively. Admit something to yourself that you haven’t before.
To yourself, doesn’t have to be to anyone else.
Harness it and move forwards.
And you get to know yourself a little better in the process.
To your success,
