If you want to succeed……
An article with some encouragement on how to succeed at your goals:
I know I’ve been rambling on this week about the coaches house. However, with so many talented and amazing professionals from the sport and business world imparting wisdom it’s hard to not be inspired to write!
Anyway here are 2 key messages I’ve picked up about success at the very highest level in any field!
1. Get in the mix as soon as you can! If you can be around successful people, go to competitions, experience what you eventually want to be in charge of, and learn what it’s all about, you have a statistically better chance of getting these sooner! It’s that simple.
2. Get yourself a mentor! Whether its formal or informal make sure you get one, or more than one. I’m really fortunate to have a few people I can count on as mentors. In the S&C world I really value Kelvin Giles as a key mentor for me, and more recently, Vern Gambetta. Closer to home the man himself Duncan French and Karl Cooke as well as Nick Grantham of course. These guys I can count on and bounce ideas off any time. It’s invaluable. I also have some business mentors that I spend as much time as I can with and can steal and borrow ideas and strategies. More importantly mentors help to reinforce my mindset towards life, business and sports.
I should also add, a mentor is not someone you set up a direct debit to and every month money leaves your account! A mentor is someone who wants to help you, has experience to help you and most importantly, respects you for who you are and where you want to go. So beware of people offering lots in return for lots of money.
Now make it happen!
