Better Coaching: The Importance of Fluency
Take a moment to think and brainstorm the words that you would want to represent your athletes movement skills.
Some of the ones I came up with were:
Obvious ones such as powerful, explosive, when applicable too.
All of the above have their place and at times are more relevant than others. It’s context dependant.
Now think about the movements you ask them to perform in their time with you.
Are they condusive to producing the qualities you want them too?
Do those exercises lead to fluent, dynamic, expressive movement?
What about your coaching? Are you coaching to enable the right adaptations?
Are you cueing fluency when you want it? This could be the difference that makes the difference.
When you analyse your programmes, which photo do your exercises represent?
Whichever it is will most likely to be the end product.
What’s your instinct without thinking about it too much?
A balance needs to exist for sure. We need fluency, but we also need some stiffness. But we don’t want to move like robots.
We also have to be safe and this requires bracing, tightness, rigidity.
It might be wise to restore fluency and flow where possible though.
Watch Usain below, then watch the other guy. If the other guy represents the bulk of your programme your might want to look at making a few tweaks.
Thanks again for reading guys much appreciated.
Yesterday I launched the Lean Body Trainer: THE METHODS video. It covers LOTS of content about getting lean, athletic and productive in two videos. It’s on sale for £47 (will be £67) until Monday 3rd June and to be honest the bonus package alone is worth over £120 (They won’t all be included after the 3rd June). The video on top of that makes it a ridiculous bargain if i’m totally honest.
Click the picture below to take you to the product, it’s a really good resource for those of you working with athletes looking to control body comp, those of you working with general public looking for a better way, and those people who are super keen and want to learn about all things metabolic conditioning and nutrition.
